Faith in the Wait

Faith in the Wait

'He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.'
Ecclesiastes 3:11

I'm sure at one point or another you've been waiting for something. A job, a friend, a opportunity and it can feel like time is standing still.

Sometimes it feels like you're in the waiting room, just hoping your name gets called next.

So what do you do in that time? How do you have faith in the wait? How do you keep believing when it seems like anything else would be better pursuing?

I know I've asked myself these same questions over and over again. And truthfully the waiting only became easier when I stop focussing on it.

Instead of focussing on what I was waiting for or missing out on, I instead directed my attention to the opportunity that this time gave me.

If I wasn't able to serve in the areas I wanted to in church, maybe God wanted me to take the time to just pursue him.

One of the main reasons this blog started was because I had so many words I wanted to share with people but nowhere to share them.

It was only when I stopped glorifying the day I would suddenly get the opportunity to preach, that I realised how God wanted to use me right now.

Often we diminish the waiting season, forgetting that it's really the training grounds for our gifting. We become so intent on the promise land that we don’t steward the present.

That's how it can become so easy to lose faith in the promises of God…

‘Let your eyes look straight ahead;
fix your gaze directly before you.
Give careful thought to the paths for your feet
and be steadfast in all your ways.’
Proverbs 4:25-26

When I started to see the waiting as preparation for the future, my perspective totally changed.

Instead of asking 'When will it happen, Lord?' I started asking 'Will I be ready?'.

Then every time there was a delay or a set-back, I would ask God to show me what else I needed to learn.

Maybe it was a simple as learning to trust in his plan and not be so fixated on my own. Or maybe I was limiting myself and not seeing myself the way God saw me.

In order to have faith in the wait you need to understand the nature of our incredible God. Once you understand how he operates, you know that he truly only has what's best for us ahead.

That is when you realise that I would much rather be in the waiting season than the wrong season. That I need the proper preparation to be ready for the promise.

That it's in the in-between, in the uncertainty that you will experience the most growth. That if you let God teach and mould you, he will use you in the most unlikely places.

You don’t have be in the 'promise land' to experience the miraculous. You don't have to be on stage to reach the nations. You don’t have to have 'a position' to minister to people.

Don’t give up on the promise friends but don’t glorify it. Lay every aspiration, every dream at the feet of Jesus and ask him to give it to you when the time is right.

I know the waiting is hard but it is so worth it. The promise isn't just for you but for the generations to come. So it's worth the fight of faith. Stay strong friends.
