Time to Disarm
Sometimes it often feels like you always need to be strong, armed and ready for any circumstance or obstacle that may come your way. You begin to form man-made plans and strategies to avoid being hurt or vulnerable. I think we can all be susceptible to wanting to do life in our own strength and be in complete control!
Yet this can be pretty exhausting and I would often wonder why? God would just simply say to me 'that's because you are relying on your own strength -rather than mine!'. It's time for us to take off our man-made armour and lay our defences down. Stop being so concerned by our own weakness that we forget that God makes up more than the difference!
The Lord is my strength and my [impenetrable] shield;
My heart trusts [with unwavering confidence] in Him, and I am helped;
Therefore my heart greatly rejoices,
And with my song I shall thank Him and praise Him.
Psalms 28:7
Let's remember that God is our shield, that he can protect us even we are surrounded by the enemy, in a fiery furnace, about to be slain as a sacrifice -it won't be our man-made armor that will protect us -only God can and will!
For me there is no more perfect example of this that when David went up against Goliath. It would have been so easy for anyone to want to have the King's armour on -whether it fit comfortably or not. It would have been the sensible thing to do and yet David took it off and stood with just a slingshot and a stone.
Then Saul dressed David in his garments and put a bronze helmet on his head, and put a coat of mail (Armour) on him. Then David fastened his sword over his armour and tried to walk, [but he could not,] because he was not used to them. And David said to Saul, “I cannot go with these, because I am not used to them.” So David took them off.
1 Samuel 17:38-39
This is the supernatural power that we have when God is on our side. We don’t need all the protection and security that the world says comes from material things. All we need is the supernatural armour that we have access to as children of God! And I know that the sword of the spirit and the shield of faith will be way more powerful and effective against any attacks of the devil!
So while 'disarming' and laying your man-made security down may seem to make you more vulnerable and open to attack -it will actually allow God full access to show off his power and strength!
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Psalms 46:1
But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint
Isaiah 41:31
So let's stop trying to face life's challenges in our own strength and instead put our hope in the most faithful, powerful source -Jesus!!
