Hi.

Welcome to TheStyleofFaith! I share my thoughts on Faith, Fashion and Food -would love if you could join me on this beautiful journey.

What’s your mirror?

What’s your mirror?

It’s amazing how powerful a mirror can be. We can use it to see our biggest insecurities or greatest attributes.

Whether we think it defines us, it shapes how we view people perceive us.

Yet it’s not just a physical mirror that reflects our identity to us these days.

When pictures and social media keep record of everything, we are constantly viewing ourselves through filtered, blurred lenses.

Without realising, our reflection may have over time become deformed and God’s light is no longer radiating off us.

Because we have stopped looking to God as our mirror, we have stopped reflecting his glory. We have lost sight of our identity.

Over the last couple of weeks this question kept dropping into my spirit ‘what’s your mirror?’ and I couldn’t figure out why.

I started to become defensive ‘but God I have a good self image, I know I am made in your likeness’.

But God wanted me to go deeper, he wanted me to realise that what people ingest, is what they then reflect. What they look at, they then radiate.

‘Therefore be imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father].’
Ephesians 5:1

When I would pray that I would illuminate God more and more, God would challenge me to feed myself more with his word.

When I would ask for more strength and energy, God would tell me to pray in the spirit.

When I thought something was ridiculous, God called me to have faith and be courageous!

In each of these moments I recognised that how I was acting was not a reflection of who I was.

That I was mediating my identity on the world’s ‘wisdom’ rather then the revelation of my position in God’s kingdom.

That what we see, we start to reflect. That what we see as appropriate, as valuable, as beautiful, we will even subconsciously try and obtain.

That if we ingest God’s word, we will shower people with encouragement and love.

But if we listen to gossip, we will try to elevate ourselves and diminish others.

Just like with anything, we don’t realise how quickly things become normal. What we once deemed as unacceptable, we now think is standard.

Just like when you look at yourself long enough in the mirror, everything becomes distorted.

So what’s your mirror friends? Maybe it’s your family, your background, your friends or social media.

Don’t fear, it’s not hard to fix. All you need to do is keep your eyes fixed on Jesus.

‘And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendour and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit.’
2 Corinthians 3:18

Face him, he’ll cover all your brokenness and insecurities. As you let his word sink deep into your spirit, you will begin to reflect his glory.

And you know what the best thing is? You’re worth and value is never determined by your appearance.

God will welcome you with open arms, no matter your condition. Let your identity be found in him friends. Let him and his word be your mirror.
