Detaching Disappointment

Detaching Disappointment

It can be so easy to allow disappointment to grab hold of us. Seep into our mind, our heart and suck all the faith out of us.

When we are disappointed we have a tendency to look down, hang our heads low. We hide in shame, often embarrassed that we had hope.

Yet we don’t realise that in allowing disappointment to attach itself, we plant seeds for bitterness and resentment too. The devil wants to use that disappointment to lower expectations, standards and diminish dreams.

Instead of praying, we start questioning. Instead of pursuing God, we start complaining. In our doubt, we stop dreaming.

Disappointment often comes when we are unprepared. We thought we had it all figured out, we thought that's how God had spoken to us.

Yet when 'the plan' all falls through, we act as though OUR plan was GODs plan. This is how we are deceived.

We place our intentions and desires on a word or dream from God. Instead of allowing God to set both the destination and the path to it.

Then when we get a dead end, we question the destination, when really God just had a different path for us.

So each step of the way, we need to make sure we are constantly aligning ourself with God’s direction and guidance. We need to trust in his plan, even if it doesn’t look like how we imagined it.

'So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. '
2 Corinthians 4:16 (MSG)

It's so important to constantly let God renew our heart and mind. To get rid of any bitterness or resentment that has begun to latch onto our hearts.

To ‘detach’ means to disengage or to seperate oneself from something. This is what we need to do with anything that would hinder us from receiving all God has for us.

I have seen too many people let one offence rid them of the blessings God wanted to pour out on them. I look back on past disappointments and dead ends and am so grateful I continued to have faith that the best was ahead.

I know you feel discouraged but it's time to look up. Stop looking down at the pit you're in and look up at the helping hand stretched out to you.

God wants to elevate you, he wants to raise you up but he cant do that if bitterness or disappointment still has a hold over you.

If you feel weighed down by disappointment friends, I want you to declare this over your life -

‘I lie in the dust;
revive me by your word.
I told you my plans, and you answered.
Now teach me your decrees.
Help me understand the meaning of your commandments,
and I will meditate on your wonderful deeds.
I weep with sorrow;
encourage me by your word.
Keep me from lying to myself;
give me the privilege of knowing your instructions.
Psalms 119:25-29

I pray that God would refresh and renew your spirit, that fresh faith would rise up in you friends! Know that God truly has the best plan for you and he cares for you.

Why am I discouraged?
Why is my heart so sad?
I will put my hope in God!
I will praise him again—
my Saviour and my God!
Psalms 42:11
